Inn to Inn Biking in Southside Virginia (5/1/2010 thru 8/30/2010)
Across the country, inn to inn bicycling is becoming a popular way to sightsee through the countryside during the day and sleep in luxury at night. Now, four Southside Virginia bed & breakfasts have found a way to offer their own package, giving riders more flexibility and lower prices than they get from most touring companies. Guests are offered their choices of a former tobacco plantation, a former coach tavern, a country home or an elegant 20th century colonial home. What all destinations have in common are comfort, charm, friendliness and gourmet cuisine.

Bicycle riders will meander at their own pace along former coach roads in Halifax County, one of the most sparsely populated parts of Virginia. Less than two hours from Norfolk and Richmond, the roads amble along the rolling Piedmont hills, past ever-changing farmland, historic towns and a local museum. Innkeepers have mapped out routes for self-guided tours with flexible daily ride distances of 16 to 58 miles per day or more. The inns offer confirmed reservations at all inns, luggage transport inn to inn, transport back to original inn to pick up car, maps and custom tour flexibility.

Tours start at $125 per day per person, including breakfasts and a picnic lunch. Riders can call 434-575-7137 for guided maps and help in selecting inns, depending on how far they want to ride each day. The choices are:

Oak Grove Plantation, Cluster Springs. Soothing, hands-on reiki treatment is offered by the innkeeper. (434-575-7137) www.oakgroveplantation.com

Breezy Oaks, Alton,. For tired bike riders, massages are offered by the Songlow Clinic, on site. (434-822-5841) www.innvirginia.cominnpage.php/?memlD=256

Tacrea House, Elmo,. (434-753-2510) www.cstone.net/~tacrea .

Cage's Bed & Breakfast, Halifax. (877-754-2252).

Rejuvenate Yourself with a Woman's Retreat (6/1/2010 thru 8/31/2010)
If you're tired, grumpy, worn out -- change your life with a woman's retreat at Breezy Oaks and Oak Grove Plantation, two Halifax County bed & breakfasts. Come alone or bring your friends.

Start with a Friday evening session with a reiki treatment-a hands-on relaxation and healing method. Then settle into your comfortable, nicely decorated room for the kind of deep rest you never get in the noisy city.

Start Saturday with a healthy breakfast and calming walk in the woods. Follow up with a massage. A delicious lunch will be provided, and in the evening, you will be transported to South Boston's only AAA three-star restaurant, Bistro 1888 www.bistro1888.com .

Your innkeeper can chauffeur you, or for an additional charge you can be whisk to the restaurant in a limo and returned to your B&B for sweet dreams(limo needs to be arranged 2 weeks in advance). The next day you can glide home after a sumptuous breakfast.

Total cost for the weekend, depending on your choice of room at either B&B, $315-$440, plus the Bistro dinner and limo.

It can be a perfect birthday or holiday gift for a truly deserving Mom. It can be even more fun to bring a group of friends.

Go Green at Oak Grove (6/1/2010 thru 8/31/2010)
REDUCE-Drive a hybrid (and get the third day free).
REUSE-Come and reuse Oak Grove, which has been in my family since it was built in 1820.
RECYCLE-We recycle glass, paper, plastic 1 & 2, and cans, aluminum and otherwise.

Forget the bottled water, our water is tested yearly and is good to drink. We use local produce and eggs. We compost and use rain water for watering plants. We have a wildflower garden that draws butterflies. Our sheets and towels are line dried. There are 400 acres for hiking and biking. Come and stay and have dinner at our local three-star Green restaurant, Bistro 1888 (www.bistro1888.com) with the included $50 gift certificate. The price for three nights is $275 to $400 for a couple, for a savings of $45 to $70.

Midweek Dog Special (6/1/2010 thru 8/31/2010)
Dogs especially love Oak Grove Plantation Bed and Breakfast. Our grounds are perfect for frolicking and working off energy. Walk with your dog in our wide-open spaces of fields, woods and streams. You can also play with them on-leash in the beautiful yards surrounding the plantation house. When they arrive, pets will find a bag with home made dog treats and doggie pickup bags. Guided dog hikes are available. Included in this two day stay are two hours of dog sitting so you can go out to dinner or to a movie while your dog has fun plus a dog walk on your trails the next day. There is even a photo of your dog to take home. The dog fee of $25 is also included in this package. The cost is $198 for a couple and a dog for two nights Monday through Thursday.

Trains, trains, trains! (6/1/2010 thru 8/31/2010)
Two-day package: Listen to the whistle the rumble and the roar?

How many bed & breakfasts have a railroad bridge overlooking 100-car coal trains that pass by several times a day? Just like the kids that visit, railroad buffs will enjoy rushing to the bridge to watch when the whistle grows louder and the train approaches. While you?re here you may like to visit the Wreck of the 97 exhibit in Danville, 30 miles away. Or see the caboose at a nearby museum or tour the Staunton River Battlefield State Park, where Rebel guardsmen fought back Northern advancement on a railroad bridge.

If you are environmentally aware and prefer to take the train, we?ll be glad to pick you up at the Amtrak station in Danville and drop you off on your return.

With these two-night rail packages, we?ll include a tasty trainman?s box lunch for two.

Cost: $222 for two nights
